The fifth edition of digital electronics: principles and applications include numerous changes and improvements that are a direct result of the reviewers' recommendations and the feedback from instructors of digital electronics. De morgan's theorems are now introduced in chapter 4. Chapter 5 now contains coverage of optoisolators and stepper motors. Several of the changes in chapter 6 relate to the gray code commonly associated with optical shaft encoding. Additional coverage of the logic probe, dmm/logic probe, ic tester, the portable ic tester, and the digital real time oscilloscope strengthens chapter 8. Coverage of cpus is improved in chapter 10, along with coverage of the arithmetic-logic unit (alu). Chapter 12 includes important sections on programmable logic controllers(plcs), microcontrollers, along with several interesting examples.
